This concludes and points back to what was asked and answered before. Mahāmati subsequently inquired again about the meaning of covetous desire and the Dharma. In the answer, grasping and abandoning and so forth are taken as covetousness. Covetousness is affliction; because of covetousness one is bound and clings to external dust and so forth, which is the binding of karma. Again generating the aggregate of suffering and so forth is the path of suffering; yet all take craving as their root. Craving further arises from practicing and associating with worldly philosophy, and 'those of worldly philosophy' refers to the persons; both can induce and cause one to generate covetousness, hence it is said 'appropriating covetous desire.' Saying 'not appropriating the Dharma' means not appropriating the true Dharma.
