Regarding 'mutually generate one another': the Nirgrantha theorists postulate that at the beginning of the kalpa, one man and one woman were born; at that time they joined and mutually generated each other, and when all things perish, they return again to them; they claim that besides this there is no other cause, never knowing that clinging in this way is itself the cause of birth and death, and in their folly they do not realize it, taking it to be nirvāṇa. Regarding 'attained the path of the true reality', and so forth: the Sāṃkhya theorists postulate twenty-five principles arising from primal darkness, claiming to realize the path of true reality, and taking this to be nirvāṇa. Regarding 'see qualities', and so forth: whenever tīrthikas speak of 'qualities', they mostly refer to austerities, yet concerning where they arise in combination, they form views of the catuṣkoṭi, taking this to be nirvāṇa. Regarding 'arising from nature', and so forth: the Ru Lengqie says, 'Or they postulate that all things are born from spontaneity (svabhāva): the plumage of peacocks, the sharp thorns of brambles, and how places producing gems yield diverse jewels—who could make such things? Thus they cling to spontaneity as nirvāṇa.'
