"Not being aware of the external svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa" means that not knowing that the svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa of dharmas are cittadṛśyamātra, being deluded about the eighth consciousness, one retains only the seven consciousnesses, designating the false awareness of the seven consciousnesses as the Buddha's meaning; and nothing other than the pure practices of the three liberations can sever them. The outflow-free (anāsrava) is fundamentally good, yet it is called "evil" here because it also accords with the meaning of killing. To be able to generate this mind and completely cut off the Buddhas of the seven consciousnesses is precisely the meaning of drawing blood from a Buddha's body. The Ru Lengqie says: "Cutting off that body of the eight consciousnesses as Buddha is because the ninth consciousness is taken as the Buddha-consciousness, and the eighth consciousness is taken as the bodhisattva-consciousness, since their essence belongs to ignorance. These are the internal five uninterrupted [deeds]." From "If a man..." downward is the conclusion.
