"Therefore, Mahāmati, a bodhisattva-mahāsattva should not be attached to speech, but should widely expound the sūtras and dharmas through appropriate expedient means. Because the hopes and afflictions of sentient beings are not uniform, I and all the Buddhas preach the various dharmas for those sentient beings of diverse understandings in order to cause them to be free from mind, intellect, and mental consciousness, not to reach the place of pratyātmāryajñāna."
