三、約用者，謂菩薩留惑，增修大行。《攝論》云「諸惑成覺分」等。經云「一切眾魔及諸外道，皆吾侍也。」此則雖惑而順也。「有漏善品趣向人天，違出離道。」此則雖善而違也。

Third, regarding function: this refers to a bodhisattva retaining afflictions to foster the cultivation of the great practice. The Mahāyānasaṃgraha says: 'Afflictions become factors of awakening,' and so on. A sūtra says: 'All Māras and non-Buddhists are my attendants.' This means that though they are afflictions, they accord. 'Contaminated wholesome factors tend toward humans and gods, opposing the path of transcendence.' This means that though they are wholesome, they oppose.
