Both the discriminative and innate pervade the three realms; only anger exists solely in the desire realm. The afflictions of the two higher realms, form and formless, are all subsumed under the defiled indeterminate nature. Under each of the four noble truths in the desire realm there are ten primary afflictions, which makes forty. In each of the two higher realms, anger is excluded from each truth, leaving nine in each, which makes seventy-two; combined with the desire realm there are one hundred and twelve. As for the innate ones, the desire realm possesses six; the two higher realms exclude anger, each possessing only five, which combined make sixteen; together with the aforementioned discriminative ones, there are one hundred and twenty-eight afflictions in total.
