2.48

聞大慧能問如是微妙心法，故讚善哉！誡令審諦，無以生滅心行，聽實相法也。自後凡三十九偈，皆如來為說。

Having heard Mahāmati able to ask about such subtle and wonderful mind-dharmas, he praised him, saying "Excellent!" He admonished him to examine carefully and not to listen to the dharmatā teaching with a mind of production and cessation. From here on, there are thirty-nine verses in all, all spoken by the Tathāgata for his sake.
