因上佛謂言說所說皆無自性，則無有因緣法。故大慧舉餘修多羅，佛自說十二因緣，有佛無佛，性相常住。故問所說常聲，依何處說？

Because the Buddha stated above that what is spoken of by language is entirely devoid of intrinsic nature, and that there are no phenomena of causes and conditions, Mahāmati cites other sūtras where the Buddha himself stated that, whether Buddhas appear or do not appear, the nature and characteristics of the twelve links of conditioned arising are permanently abiding. Therefore he asks: based on what locus is the word 'permanent' spoken?
