If explained separately: 'Thus' (evaṃ) is the fulfillment of faith. The Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra states: 'In the great ocean of the Buddha Dharma, faith is that by which one enters, and wisdom is that by which one crosses over.' Whether a sūtra is extensive or brief, without faith one cannot step into it, hence it is said 'Thus'. Some say: 'When the Holy One expounds the Dharma, it is solely to reveal suchness; only suchness is "thus" (right).' It is also said: '"Thus" is words that accord with principle; "right" is an appellation of non-error.' Now it is said: '"Thus" is true emptiness, and "right" is wondrous existence.' Since there is no reality outside of existence, it is empty without being annihilating; since there is no conventional truth outside of reality, it exists without being eternal. This directly refutes provisional and heterodox schools to illuminate the Middle Way; hence it says 'Thus'.
