The above clarifies that the various consciousnesses mutually act as causes, each cognising its own realm, with the stream of false conceptualization flowing on. For one who wishes to transform the consciousnesses into the functions of wisdom, because the fundamental storehouse consciousness is subtle and difficult to know, the text adduces the practitioners of the two vehicles who cultivate inferior samādhis: not knowing that the habit-energy seeds of the various consciousnesses rely on the storehouse consciousness without ceasing, they consider themselves to have eliminated the consciousnesses and entered into samādhi; but in truth they have not yet done so, having merely subdued the sixth consciousness so that it does not grasp at dust-realms, which they take to be cessation.
