These three meanings: the first refers to the time of delusion, the last to the time of awakening, and the middle directly designates the essence itself. Therefore the Śrīmālādevī Sūtra says: 'If one has no doubt concerning the tathāgatagarbha wrapped in immeasurable afflictions, one will also have no doubt concerning the Dharmakāya emerged from the store of immeasurable afflictions.' However, the fruit is manifest and easy to believe, whereas the cause is hidden and difficult to understand; hence those of shallow intellect belittle the cause and esteem the fruit. I hope practitioners will deeply believe in their own minds.
