This clarifies the establishment of preaching the Dharma by the three Buddhas, explaining the meaning revealed by sudden and gradual. The Buddha that streams forth from the Dharmatā is the saṃbhogakāya Buddha. He explains that all dharmas of individual and common characteristics are the causal marks of the present habit-energies of one's own mind's fundamental consciousness, and the causal marks of the parikalpita grasping of the preceding evolving consciousnesses, mutually connected to one another. The diverse illusory things all lack intrinsic nature; hence the Awakening of Faith says: 'All dharmas are maintained only through the ignorant, false mind of sentient beings, like images in a mirror having no substance that can be grasped.' Yet sentient beings do not understand, and engage in diverse clinging, grasping them as real—how could they not be mistaken!
