Foolish persons take birth-and-death as distinct from nirvāṇa. For these foolish persons, severing birth-and-death and proceeding toward nirvāṇa is taught; thus the lineages of the three vehicles are taught. The wise say that this birth-and-death of the six destinies is the cittamatra of false discrimination, lacking any external objective realm. Yet those foolish persons do not know that the birth-and-death of false discrimination taught by the Tathāgatas of the three times is the objective realm manifested from their own minds; grasping at objects outside the mind, they impute characteristics of birth-and-death as distinct from nirvāṇa, and therefore transmigrate in birth-and-death.
