First is the nirvāṇa of fundamentally pure original nature. This refers to the principle of true suchness of the characteristics of all phenomena: although polluted by adventitious defilements, its original nature is pure; it is endowed with immeasurable and subtle virtues, is without arising and without cessation, and is tranquil like empty space. It is shared equally by all sentient beings, is neither one with nor different from all phenomena, is free from all characteristics and all discrimination, cuts off the paths of reflection, and terminates the track of words. It is realized internally only by the true noble ones, and because its nature is fundamentally quiescent, it is called nirvāṇa.
