Emanation Buddhas provisionally appear in accordance with the marks of sentient beings; because they conform to human dharmas, they make use of protection. The true Tathāgata is free from all sense faculties and measurements, which is the unseeable mark; he does not make use of protection. All these emanation Buddhas arise in accordance with human roots of goodness, not from real karma, and are not the true Buddha; yet, arising as emanations based on the real, they are also not separate from the true Buddha. Just as a potter's wheel and so forth operate through the conjunction of many factors, so it is with emanation Buddhas. For sentient beings whose various characteristics of transmigration are fully present, they again expound dharmas of self-characteristics and common characteristics, but do not expound the realm traversed by the true Buddha's noble wisdom of self-realization. This answers the eighth question.
