質曰：「彼福不當減乎？」佛言：「猶如炬火，數千百人各以炬來取其火去，熟食除冥。彼火如故，福亦如之。」

Someone asked: 'Would that person's merit not be diminished?' The Buddha said: 'It is like the flame of a torch: several hundreds or thousands of people each bring a torch to take its fire away to cook food and dispel darkness. That [original] fire remains as it was, and merit is also like this.'
