Toward the four pairs of dharmas they have no mind of superiority or inferiority, like the Buddha regarding the realms of the three mindfulnesses; therefore it is said to be "identical." As for the reason for this identity, the sūtra itself questions and explains: "Because all is enlightenment." Therefore the Treatise states: "What is meant by enlightenment is that the mental essence is free of thoughts." Here, one is free of the eight thoughts mentioned above: binding and seeking, loathing and loving, venerating and despising, and prizing and slighting. Bringing up the eight realms is to reveal the mind. The simile says that light has neither hatred nor love; later it says, "Because of cultivating this mind."
