11.24

經云「說因非作者，彼果則不生」者，意明因者因空。因因既空，何有果也。故《中論》、《智度》中廣破。當知此因，以智觀察尚不得其原。此因無依，無依即是本來不生，本來不生之因何能生果？故知彼果本不生也。

The sūtra says: 'If it is said that the cause is not an agent, that effect does not arise.' The meaning explains that a cause is empty of cause. Since the cause of a cause is already empty, how could there be an effect? Therefore the Madhyamakaśāstra and the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa refute this extensively. One should know that when this cause is examined with wisdom, its origin cannot be found. This cause has no support; having no support means it is originally unborn. How could a cause that is originally unborn produce an effect? Thus we know that the effect is originally unborn.
