In performing any single rite with the various implements above, one uses this syllable khaṃ to accomplish it. Whether one attains upper, middling, or lower accomplishment, one employs it according to the matter at hand. Down to, once accomplished, grasping it to travel to the Buddha realms, one is called a vidyādhara. Next, the meanings of the five syllables are explained in further detail. If one abides in this principle and accords with the matter at hand, one can accomplish all tasks. Therefore, the Buddha looked upon the great assembly and addressed Vajrapāṇi, saying: 'When this mantra bodhisattva practices the bodhisattva conduct, the syllable a is its own intrinsic color, relinquishing everything internally and externally.' 'Attaining all phrases and meanings' means attaining correspondence with the fundamental essence and intrinsic color of the syllable a. The essence is fundamentally unborn, identical to the body of the true mark of the vajra. If one corresponds with this mark, one can relinquish all dharmas, regarding the coarse and the subtle as equal. It is like regarding tile and gold alike; because one skillfully abides in the contemplation of equality, one is completely freed from all the three poisons and sinful karmas. If one is like this, one will attain a pure mind; having attained this purity, one is identical to the Munis, the Buddhas, capable of universally benefiting all sentient beings, transcending sins, and abandoning all faults and afflictions.
