The sūtra says: "Further with this giving, giving rise to an affectionate mind and making offerings to them, is the sixth: the maturation of fruit." This means that what one has practiced has matured: not merely being joyful, one is further able to give to those of venerable conduct with an affectionate mind. Moreover, due to the conditions of the previous giving, one gets to hear the benefit of the Dharma and knows that they harbor superior virtue within—namely, the ability to transcend desires and the like—so one becomes intimate with, draws close to, and makes offerings to them. Looked at from the initial seed, this is the "mind of matured fruit."
