The sūtra says: 'If one knows the self as it truly is, one shall attain fearlessness regarding the body.' This means that when cultivating mindfulness of the body, seeing that this body is composed of thirty-six elements and filled with five kinds of impurities and filth, one never generates craving and attachment on its account. Next, one further contemplates feelings, mind, and dharmas, attaining freedom from the four inversions of not contemplating the nature of the self, and attains a place of respite from the choking bonds of the body. For a mantra practitioner, when the various marks of the samādhi of the deity appear before them, their station is equivalent to this.
