The sūtra says: 'If, regarding the bodily self gathered by the grasping aggregates, one renounces the contemplation of one's own material form, one shall attain fearlessness of selflessness.' This means that when contemplating that there are only aggregates and no self, through various analyses and inquiries among the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, a self cannot be found. 'Renouncing this material form of one's own' is like a tree casting a shadow: if there is no tree, from where could the shadow arise? Now, the five aggregates themselves arise from conditions and are entirely devoid of intrinsic nature, how much less could there be a self within this collection? As stated above, up to realizing a serene and quiescent mind free of all faults, this is attaining a place of respite from the choking bonds of a self. For a mantra practitioner, within all fragments of the yoga realm, being able to contemplate the ungraspability of mind without generating attachment or pride, their station is equivalent to this.
