Although he knew that the seeing nature is solely the mind, he did not yet distinguish the true from the false. If one says it is false, the Tathāgata again grants the attainment of the wonderful bright mind and obtaining the pure eye. If one says it is true, the earlier text extensively refuted it as not true, saying that the false marks and thoughts of the front dust delude your true nature. Advancing is impossible, and retreating is hard to understand; this is truly what is called 'a ram ramming a hedge.' Since his mind was not yet clear, his mouth was silent, secretly hoping for the Tathāgata's compassionate voice to instruct him.
