1.77

具云辟支迦羅，此云緣覺，以觀十二因緣而覺悟故。此是部行，非同麟喻。然不預嘆德列名者，以厭喧樂靜，不為眾所知識故。主伴咸集，故云并其初心，遇佛迴向必證大果。故下經云「有學二乘及諸一切新發心菩薩等，皆獲本心，遠塵離垢，得法眼淨。」通序竟。

Fully called pratyekabuddha, translated here as "solitary enlightened one" (pratyekabuddha) because of awakening through contemplating the twelve links of dependent origination. These were of the group-practicing sort, not like the rhinoceros simile. However, their virtues were not praised in advance and their names were not listed because they dislike clamour and delight in quietude, and were not well-known teachers to the multitude. Master and companions all gathered, hence it says "together with those at the initial mind"; meeting the Buddha and dedicating themselves [to bodhi], they will certainly realize the great fruit. Hence the sūtra says below: "Those in training of the two vehicles and all newly resolved bodhisattvas and others all attained their original mind, left behind dust and defilement, and attained the purification of the Dharma-eye." The general introduction concludes.
