二、別序者，諸經不同，發起各別，或放光微笑、乞食入禪、自唱位號、勸人令問等。今經由夏滿眾集，主臣請齋，慶喜外歸，無供循乞，因遭婬室邪術所加，自無定慧，不能降伏。由是外假祕密攝護令歸，意顯生死輪迴莫過淫愛，超證聖位豈逾定慧。定慧內具，祕密外資，塵颺順風，有何艱險。

As for the specific introduction: different sūtras vary, each having a distinctive initiator—some emitting light and faintly smiling, some begging for food and entering dhyāna, some declaring their own rank, some encouraging others to ask questions, and so forth. In this sūtra, it arises because the summer retreat had ended and the assembly gathered; the king and ministers requested a vegetarian meal; Ānanda had returned from afar without an offering, so he went along begging; on this occasion he encountered the heterodox arts applied in a courtesan's chamber; lacking samādhi and wisdom of his own, he could not overcome it. Because of this, he relied externally on a secret protection to be brought back. The intent is to show that nothing in saṃsāra exceeds sensual lust, and that surpassing to realize the noble stages does not go beyond samādhi and wisdom. When samādhi and wisdom are internally complete and the secret [mantra] assists from without, then like dust scattering before a tailwind, what hardship or peril could there be?
