'What is known' is the aggregate of consciousness, because it is the objective realm known through his practice of contemplation. The aggregate of consciousness can transform all dharmas, which is called 'knowing is pervasive and perfect.' Realizing that these dharmas are transformed and arisen from knowing, with knowing as their substance, it says 'establishes an understanding based on knowing.' The passage from 'all grasses and trees in the ten directions' onward is the specific aspect of this understanding. Since both environment and sentient beings exist from knowing, how could one be knowing and another non-knowing? Therefore, without discrimination, all possess knowing; considering this definitely unerring, it says 'superior understanding.'
