10.41

梵云訖利瑟吒耶末那，此云染污意。執受者，即第八識。窮此八識性元是常，由是能知八萬劫中眾生生滅，不斷不散。以眾生無不具有八種識故，八識既生滅不失，眾生亦然，故名常也。

In Sanskrit it is called kliṣṭa-manas; here it is translated as defiled mind. "Held and received" refers to the eighth consciousness. He exhaustively probes that the nature of these eight consciousnesses is originally permanent. Due to this, he is able to know that the arising and ceasing of sentient beings over eighty thousand eons are uninterrupted and undispersed. Because sentient beings invariably possess all eight kinds of consciousness, and since the eight consciousnesses do not lose their arising and ceasing, sentient beings are also like this; hence he calls it permanent.
