These illusory appearances fundamentally have nothing to rely upon; they merely arise suddenly from delusion about reality, hence it says 'arise right where they are.' Arising is itself non-arising, originally tranquil and ceased, hence it says 'perish right where they are.' The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra says: 'All dharmas do not arise; I teach the meaning of momentary existence—having arisen, there is immediately cessation; this is not taught to fools.' The Mūlamadhyamakakārikā says: 'Dharmas do not arise from themselves, nor do they arise from another, nor from both, nor without a cause; therefore, know that they are unarisen.' Their non-arising is precisely this 'perishing right where they are.' Because false seeing grasps at seemingly existent floating appearances, which are completely lacking substance like illusory deeds, it says 'their appearances are called illusory and false.' The place of no substance is fundamentally the wondrous awakened bright nature of bodhi, hence it says 'their nature is truly the substance of wondrous, awakened brightness.'
