破根生也。初牒，稱鼻下正破，稱汝下縱破。設許汝鼻能生於香，生義雖成，聞義不立，以但能出香，不從外入與鼻合故。

Refuting its being born from the faculty. The first part cites [the assertion]; from "what is said to be born from the nose" onward is the direct refutation; from "as for your" onward is the conditional refutation. Even granting that your nose could generate fragrance, although the sense of generation would be established, the sense of smelling would not stand, because it would merely emit fragrance and not enter from outside to unite with the nose.
