塵既發根，根還取境，根境相待聞始得成，故此耳根離塵無體。

Since dust produces the faculty, and the faculty in turn grasps the realm, hearing is only established when faculty and realm depend on each other; therefore this ear faculty, apart from dust, has no substance.
