「阿難！如汝所言，四大和合發明世間種種變化。阿難！若彼大性體非和合，則不能與諸大雜和，猶如虛空不和諸色。若和合者同於變化，始終相成，生滅相續，生死死生、生生死死，如旋火輪未有休息。阿難！如水成氷，氷還成水。」

"Ānanda! As you have said, the combination of the four great elements manifests the various transformations in the world. Ānanda! If the nature of those elements is not combined in its essence, it cannot intermix with the other elements, just as empty space does not combine with various forms. If it is combined, it is identical to transformation: beginning and end mutually producing each other, arising and cessation continuing successively, birth and death, death and birth, living and dying, dying and living, like a whirling wheel of fire without any rest. Ānanda! It is like water becoming ice, and ice turning back into water."
