This refutes arising from the moon. The first five lines directly take up the refutation. The moon's distance from the human realm is like that of the sun, hence it is called 'a distant place'. Everywhere illuminated by moonlight ought to form streams; why only from the pearl? The four lines beginning with 'if they pour forth' jointly conclude that it is not so: if everywhere illuminated forms streams, what need is there for it to come from the pearl? If there are no streams, this shows that the nature of this water does not come from the moon.
