問聲有無，令釋所以。前答聞之有無，亦以鍾聲起歇為釋，今答聲之有無，亦以鍾聲起歇為釋，將驗其情，隨言印順耳。

He asked about the presence and absence of sound to make them explain the reason. Previously, answering the presence and absence of hearing, they likewise explained it by the arising and ceasing of the bell's sound; now, answering the presence and absence of sound, they likewise explained it by the arising and ceasing of the bell's sound. This was to test their mental state, which merely chimed in and agreed following the words.
