He is variously called Aniloudou or Anuloutuo, which are slight variations in Sanskrit pronunciation; here translated as 'Without Cessation' or 'As-One-Wishes'. He was a paternal cousin of the Buddha, the son of Śuklodana. Because he was exceedingly fond of sleeping, the Tathāgata reproached him, saying: 'Alas, alas, why do you sleep? Like snails, clams, oysters, and mussels, sleeping for a thousand years without hearing the Buddha's name.' Hence it is said that he reproached him as being of the animal kind. It was commonly said that he had the deva-eye across half his head; now it speaks of the vajra-samādhi. This reveals the actual realization, which is distinct from former accounts, and should be understood according to its intended meaning.
