周利盤特迦即從座起，頂禮佛足而白佛言：「我闕誦持，無多聞性。最初值佛聞法出家，憶持如來一句伽陀，於一百日得前遺後、得後遺前。佛慜我愚，教我安居調出入息。」

Cūḍapanthaka immediately arose from his seat, bowed his head at the Buddha's feet, and addressed the Buddha, saying: "I was deficient in recitation and retention, possessing no nature for much hearing. When I first encountered the Buddha, heard the Dharma, and left the household life, I recollected and retained one gāthā of the Tathāgata, yet within a hundred days, grasping the earlier part I forgot the later, and grasping the later part I forgot the earlier. The Buddha took pity on my foolishness and taught me to settle down and regulate the inhalation and exhalation of my breath."
