「世尊，彼佛如來歎我善得圓通法門，於大會中授記我為觀世音號，由我觀聽十方圓明，故觀音名遍十方界。」

“World-Honoured One, that Buddha Tathāgata praised me for having skillfully attained the Dharma-gate of perfect penetration, and in the great assembly conferred upon me the designation Avalokiteśvara (Contemplator of the World's Sounds). Because my contemplating and hearing was perfectly luminous throughout the ten directions, the name Avalokiteśvara pervades all worlds in the ten directions.”
