6.337

菩薩有二類：一智增，先取佛果，後度眾生；二悲增，度生心切，故意留惑潤生三界。今願未度而度眾生，即悲增也。

There are two types of bodhisattvas: first, those augmented by wisdom, who first attain the Buddha fruit and later cross sentient beings over; second, those augmented by compassion, whose mind to cross beings over is urgent, and so deliberately retain afflictions to moisten rebirth in the three realms. Now, vowing to cross sentient beings over while not yet crossed over oneself is precisely augmentation by compassion.
