「譬如窮人妄號帝王，自取誅滅，況復法王如何妄竊？因地不直，果招紆曲，求佛菩提，如噬臍人，欲誰成就？」

"For example, it is like a poor person falsely styling himself an emperor and bringing about his own execution and ruin. How much less could one falsely usurp the Dharma King? When the causal stage is not straightforward, the fruit incurs tortuous deviations. Seeking the Buddha's bodhi in this way is like someone biting his own navel—whom could he hope to accomplish it through?"
