7.204

Falling into the world, stupidity is their root. Because they lack awareness and understanding, dullness and insensibility complete each other. Or they practice concentration so that their minds become like frozen ashes, their thoughts intensely withered and dried up; their minds change following conditions, transforming matter into their bodies. They take lack of consciousness as true cultivation, and regard dull stupidity as the supreme path. This extends even to cases such as Kapila turning to stone, thousand-year ornamental pillars, and spirits of earth and trees—all of these pray in mind for their resulting physical forms and are not ultimate insentient things. When their retribution is exhausted, they enter the cycle of transmigration, just like falling from the heaven of no-thought.
