The three sections are as before. Relying on oneself and bullying others, taking lofty self-exaltation as its nature—hence it is named 'conceit' (māna). Now it says 'mutually encroaching,' 'reliance on oneself [over others],' 'surging,' and 'flowing,' which are the marks of conceit. Events such as rivers of blood are all the retributions provoked; emerging from within to the outside, cause and effect correspond to one another. Drinking it leads to delusion, hence it is called 'water of folly'; it exists in the Western Countries. 'Drowning in a great abyss' is readily understood.
