In samādhi, one finely inquires and investigates: the original substance of wondrous brightness has no marks of the aggregate of form. Due to this investigation, deeply contemplating this principle, one attains the state where the four great elements do not interweave with one another, and in an instant the body can pass out of obstacles, just like walking through empty space. This is when the mind does not take the form as primary, the four great elements lose their material resistance, the contemplating mind is unimpeded, overflowing into the dusts before it; this effort is only temporary and is not a holy realization. If one knows that this is the power of the meditator's effort, there will be no error, hence it is called a good state. If one dismisses it entirely as māra, one suppresses wholesome effort. If one says it is holy, one has not yet severed delusions; hence [the Buddha] causes one to understand it well without grasping or rejecting. The following are all modeled on this.
