凌謂篾他，率謂自強。由見勝相，因茲感激，遂有此生。斯則無始我慢種子被激而生，悟則無咎。

"Crossing over" (ling) means looking down upon others; "rashness" (shuai) means exerting oneself forcefully. Because of seeing superior signs and being stirred by this gratitude, this [state] arises. This is the seed of beginningless arrogance being provoked into arising. If they awaken, there is no fault.
