9.296

此內由邪見外引空魔也。《大般若》云「魔能入一切眾生心，令歸依魔黨如膠如漆，斷手截臂不以為難，魔力之故人皆信伏。」《法華》所謂「深著虛妄法，堅受不可捨。」乃謗持戒等者，此之魔種代代有之。南山云：「戒是小乘，勸令捨之又不肯捨、勸令持之又不肯持，豈非與煩惱相應，卒難諫曉。魔力所惑，誰能奈何。」

Here, inwardly deviant views externally draw in the empty demon. The Mahāprajñāpāramitā Sūtra states: 'Demons can enter the minds of all sentient beings, causing them to take refuge in the demonic faction like glue and lacquer, regarding the cutting off of hands and severing of arms as not difficult; because of demonic power, people all believe and submit.' This is what the Lotus Sūtra calls 'deeply attached to empty and false dharmas, holding them fast and unable to let go.' As for 'slandering the holding of precepts,' this demonic breed has existed generation after generation. Master Nanshan said: 'They say the precepts are Hīnayāna; if urged to abandon them, they are unwilling to abandon them, and if urged to keep them, they are unwilling to keep them. Is this not corresponding with afflictions, making it exceedingly hard to admonish and awaken them? Bewitched by demonic power, who can do anything about it?'
