令知本業者，宿命事也。令蹋尾者，現後報也。起心知肇，即他心也。訐露人事，天眼、天耳也。魔得邪定，故有此通，作此異端，誰不信伏。攻發私事曰訐。

"Causes them to know their past karma" is an affair of the knowledge of past lives. Making someone step on the tail manifests the subsequent retribution in the present. Knowing the inception when a thought arises is the knowledge of others' minds. Exposing people's private affairs comes from the divine eye and divine ear. Because the demon has obtained deviant concentration, he possesses these supernormal powers; performing these strange marvels, who would not submit in faith? To attack and expose private matters is called "exposing" (jié).
