3.22

The ear analogizes the true nature, the fingers analogize avidyā, and the conjunction of the true and the false is called "plugging." The initial arising of moving thoughts is called "fatigue"; because thoughts move, realms manifest, like sound made in the head. From "Both the ear and the fatigue" downward: this moving thought and the delusive realm, the mind that binds and the realm that is manifested, are all marks of fatigue born of avidyā within the nature of bodhi. Here, plugging the ears is identical to staring straight ahead, hence it is also called "staring fixedly."
