5.19

When conscious brightness first arises, subject and object falsely appear. Once the tranquil nature is divided, the six sense faculties become differentiated. When faculties and dusts pair off, karmic nature is immediately produced; cyclic turning is endless, and one is tied down for long in birth and death. Thus, these six sense faculties are the source of the knotting and bondage of birth and death. When in one thought there is no thought, subject and object are both extinguished. The faculties, dusts, and consciousness-mind dissolve in response to the moment; there is no real to be attained, and no false to be eliminated. The nature of awakening is perfectly bright, and the Dharma eye is pure. Thus, these six sense faculties are the source of sovereign liberation, peace, bliss, and wondrous permanence. It is just like ice and water shifting through the movement of temperature: though their appearances alter, their nature of wetness is always one. Knots and unknotting are mutually continuous in just the same way.
