All phenomena are transformations of consciousness alone, and therefore are all one's own mind. The previous six [consciousnesses], failing to understand this, see them as coming from outside, grasping and discriminating them. Therefore the Awakening of Faith says: "The three realms are deceptive, made by mind alone." Apart from the mind, there are no realms of the six dusts, because all dharmas arise from the mind giving rise to false thoughts; all discrimination is merely discriminating one's own mind, hence it says "one's own mind grasping one's own mind." If one takes the wondrous nature's perfect luminosity, which is free of all names and characteristics, originally there are no worlds or sentient beings, hence it is called "not an illusion." Yet because false seeing suddenly arises, the characteristic of luminous awareness appears, the four great elements separate in purity, and faculties and dusts are distinctly formed; hence it says "becomes an illusory dharma." And it is called "illusory" because every single dharma is devoid of intrinsic nature.
