"When these five pungent roots are eaten cooked, they arouse lust; eaten raw, they increase anger. If people in such worlds who eat pungent roots can even proclaim the twelve divisions of the canon, the devas and immortals of the ten directions will detest their foul stench and all keep far away from them. Various hungry ghosts, taking advantage of their eating, will lick their lips; they will constantly dwell with ghosts. Their blessings and virtues will daily melt away, and they will long have no benefit."
