If delusional thoughts remain, the aggregates and dhātus cause obstruction, and the afflictions of forgetting and loss arise following them. Now that delusion is extinguished and the aggregates dissolve, past and future are as one: whether far or near, experienced or not yet experienced, they appear present in a single thought. This is the clear recording and non-forgetting of past lives through recollection of past states and of the future through the divine eye; therefore it is called mindfulness.
