'Endowed with great compliance': first, it complies with superior concentration; second, it is free from grief and joy. Compared to joy, grief and joy are both reviled, being nothing but discordant conditions, and are therefore not compliance. Now this wondrous joy is the foremost in the mundane realm, with none surpassing it; only then is it the full sense of compliance. 'Within a peaceful mind their rejoicings are completely fulfilled': in the mental ground and vipāka, they are compliant and autonomous; joy reaches its peak here, pure and unmixed, so it is said to be 'completely fulfilled,' because this third dhyāna is called the ground of wondrous joy free from joy. The dhyāna factors of this ground comprise five: 1. equanimity, 2. mindfulness, 3. wisdom, 4. bliss, and 5. one-pointedness of mind.
